Andreessen: PHP succeeding where Java isn't

I'll drink to that - Java is well, er, inscrutable would be phrasing it nicely, and this from an old C++ weenie. I like OOP, I understand virtual methods and instantiation, but I have never been able to get ahold of Java enough to do anything useful with it.

Netscape pioneer Marc Andreessen says the PHP is better, simpler, and has a brighter future than Java.

Peole fail to think since they aren't paying the price of the code running. Maybe if everyone thought about this sort of thing and made code more efficient we wouldn't need the mid-east oil... Just because we have the computing power does not mean we should use it wontonly. Java has is also a security hole and should be treated with some distrust from the user's point of view. Plugins are even worse. At times they don't play nice in their sandboxes. I run with Java, Javascripting and Plugins turned off routinely only turning them on as needed. PithHelmet in Safari lets me customize the settings on a site by site setting. Well worth it.
