Witness: Executed man's 'head just snapped off'
You know, I'm not much of a death penalty supporter: I'm too afraid of the State making mistakes (which they have done and will continue to do). But I'm even less of a fan of wholesale butchers: these gents who were described as "deeply frightened" before being dispatched to the Otherworld in such a gruesome fashion were responsible, without a doubt, for a large number of rather gruesome dispatches themselves.
How "deeply frightened" were their victims, before they were shot, or gassed or hanged? Would the folks who are so morally indignant over this demand equal leniency for Hitler? Will they want to cut the next Pol Pot a break?
Sorry, but it's really tough to work up a surplus of moral outrage when murderers are murdered.
A journalist who saw videotape of the hangings of Saddam Hussein's half-brother and the dictator's former chief judge has described how one of the men was decapitated. John F. Burns, from the New York Times, told CNN that Barzan Hassan al-Tikriti's head "just snapped off." He said both men looked "deeply frightened" in the execution chamber.
