How much of our personal sovereignty are we willing to cede to the Man? It's smokers and the overweight today: tomorrow it may be motorcyclists, gun owners and sky divers. Random chemical screens for nicotine and marijuana are widely used: how about for beer? Would that be OK? Eggs? Red meat? Where does it stop?

An internal Wal-Mart memo about screening out unhealthy job applicants raises the question of discrimination.

It stops with the American People. The American People demand the level of liberty they can stand and when we get lazy and stupid, we tend to demand less liberty. This is a functional Republic and while I am often outraged out our government, it really is the fault of the people.

I think the people need to be uplifted by a renewed faith in democracy, liberty and in culture. We need a real cultural revolution in this country, like we had in the 1920, the 1960s and the somewhat mixed socio-economic revolution of the 80s & 90s (one defined by "Alternative Culture" and the phrase, "It's the Economy Stupid") :) .
