Nearly Half in U.S. Say Restrict Muslims (AP)

Not quite a majority, but still scary stuff. I've certainly never been noted as a supporter of the Islamic religion: I think it's a medeival faith that's currently in inner turmoil and therefore dangerous in the extreme. But I'd never support any restrictions on their civil liberties. That's the road to a sure victory for terrorism. But apparently 44% of my countrymen think that American Muslims should register their whereabouts with the government. Not surprisingly:

The survey conducted by Cornell University also found that Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more apt to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.

I wonder how these folks would like it if they lived in a Middle Eastern Muslim country, where they were the ones who's liberties were curtailed? Bet they'd be howling like stuck pigs.
