We're Baaaack!

from electrical Hell. Seems a main transmission line fell across a substation last Saturday night, and sent massive spikes all across western Boone County. Our power was out until early Sunday morning, when we awoke to find our furnace non-functional. The blower had, well, blown. From the power surge. My SuSE server was toasted as well, despite being behind a battery backup and surge protector. But wait, there's more: the microwave has exhibited some strange behavior. Not light bulbs blew out, but we did have a couple mysteriously burn out in the henhouse - having been replaced a month or so ago.

As if that wasn't enough, I was in the process of rebuilding the server on Sunday afternoon when IT DID IT AGAIN! I lost another hard drive - this time the computer wasn't plugged into a protector as I had it in the dining room for easier access. We were down for a couple of hours, and since then [knock on wood] we've been up and running.

I've just finished rebuilding the server, recovering and restoring all the data and setting everything up. This post will test if the scripts are functional again.

What an utter and complete pain in the as. I had resolved to blog every day this year, and had been doing just fine until Sunday. Oh, well. I'll catch up. Be prepared for a plethora of posts ...
