When I first read the title of this post: Christian Right Gets Randy, over at Notes on Religion, I couldn't figure out what he was talking about ... then I read the article, dropped the 'y' in the title and was amused and astounded.

The poor author of Atlas Shrugged must be spinning in her grave at the thought of this ... but I must say I concur wholeheartedly with the wingnut's suggested reading list for teens. It was this list (with the exception of the books on Alger Hiss and Joe McCarthy) that finally broke my last bonds to Christianity, by showing up the religion of Christ for what it really was: blind subservience to a slave god, the ultimate collectivist nightmare.

And it's a short step from atheist to Asatrurar. If enough Christian teens follow this nutcase's suggestions, perhaps we should prepare for an influx of newly freed slaves ...

I would go so far as to say that there is no such thing as the "religion of Christ" -- more like "the religion of those who claim to speak for something they call the Christ." Whoops, there I go making up terms for a made-up religion again. Shame on me.

In fact, any religion that postulates an omniscient, omnipotent deity makes all of creation his (or her, I suppose) slaves by definition. Islam is a bit more intellectually honest about it: the very name means "submission" and a Muslim is "one who submits". Heathens don't submit: we worship, we celebrate, we pray, but we never bend the knee and we do not consider the Shining Gods and Goddesses to be our owners or masters. They may work either for or against us, but they never claim to control us or hold us in thrall. Christianity may be a fine religion for those who feel a need to be in submission, or those who feel so small and insignificant that they must acknowledge a power greater than themselves to which they are eternally beholden. Can you imagine the uproar that would occur if Evangelidiots found out that their god was simply a renegade member of the Aesir? Guffaw, guffaw!
