A Prayer to Freyr

It's been a pretty wild weekend in Boone County, Indiana. At least 6 inches of new snow, winds of 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph, and temperatures hovering around a nice, steady 20 degrees. We have been unable to get into the front doors of the barn since Friday evening, and have made due slipping in the side door that the barn cats use.

We did get up in the hay mow yesterday afternoon and Kris got some pretty good pictures of Hammer and the pastures, covered in snow. I'll be posting them on haxton.org as soon as I can get them resized properly.

The winter wonderland that was my barnlot kinda inspired me to write a little prayer to Yngvi-Freyr, the god of this world, Lord of the Harvest and patron of farmers everywhere:

Hail Yngvi-Freyr!

Crisp snow crunchs underfoot as winter rages its last - soon Sunna will lighten our days, the whiteness and chill winds fading into memory. We know that under the frozen prairie dwell the seeds of the harvest - we know the wheel turns and spring approaches. Hasten to us, Bringer of Peace and Plenty! Tarry not, for our souls hunger for the green grass and warmth of spring. Grant us good weather, that we may sing of your blessings as the summer waxes. Hail!
