Jobless claims overwhelm state offices

Contained herein is a statistic I'd not seen before: the job-loss total for all 2008 was 2.6 million, the most since 1945.

Scary stuff.

The unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent in December.

Battening Down the Hatches

for the cold snap that's heading our direction. The high today was 32°F - the high on Thursday this week is forecast to be -6°F. We double checked the stock tank water heater, and the line. Piled more straw outside the henhouse and picked up an extra bag of feed.

In another year, I might have complained more about this. But this year, I've been blogging over at Honk & Helen, and have been reading her comments on the weather for this time of year in 1953-54. And it was as changeable then as it is now. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
