Buried in this excellent analysis of the M$ patent strategy is a true gem: it seems as though Microsoft has filed a patent application for the IS NOT operator ...
I need to file a patent for "a system and method to use in written media indicating the termination of a sentence." I think I'll call it the "period" ... whaddya think? Any prior art?
Microsoft's decision to offshore its war against the free software movement to the World Trade Organization may save it some domestic embarrassment, but it ultimately poses a larger threat to the WTO itself than it does to software libre.

Today Microsoft warned several Asian countries that using Linux could subject them to lawsuits, claiming that Linux violates '228 patents'. Apparently, Steve Ballmer believes he can enforce U.S. law in Asia.
