A strange day, to be sure.
Almost as soon as I'd finished reading the news this morning, I got an email from Hestia herself! We'd chatted before via email, but I wasn't expecting this one.
Some months ago she had put out a call via her blog for trinkets and gizmos to use in doing some collage stuff - one of the things she'd asked for were skeleton keys.
We had bought a box of them a couple of years ago at an auction, and in the box was one HUGE key from the Chicago Worlds Fair of 1933. It really didn't go well with the the rest of the ring, and wouldn't even fit on the cedar chest, so Kris had taken it off and just set it in the closet. I wouldn't let her throw it away - I figured maybe I could find some use for it eventually.
So I emailed Hestia and and asked if she's like it. Turns out that 1933 was the year her mom was born, so she said "Sure!" and off the key went, out of my closet at last.
Todays email offered to return it! She'd gotten curious and surfed looking for more info and it turns out that this old piece of bronze junque is quite the collectors item! I immediately responded that no, a gift given is a gift given, and I would be seriously wrong to ask for it's return, seeing as how it was freely given. But I was shocked! Who'd of thunk it? Here's her post on the event ... just too strange.
